Forming technique is decided before choosing an ERW pipe mill; Different forming technique means different producing method. Therefore production rate, operation cost, products quality, automation level and suitable ranges for the mill are different.

1, Cage forming

The bottom rolls of forming section are replaced by small column rollers arranged along the edge of strip and middle of strip, which are used to combine with top rolls to forming the strip avoiding rebound from strip edges. With advantages of smaller drag at strip forming, saving power consumption and rollers, no-roll changed at the cage forming section for small size, top roll system quickly changed for big size, short changeover time and high automation level.

2, FD-Cage, no-tooling change forming machine

FD-Cage forming machine are not only in succession to all advantages of normal forming machine but also more accuracy and safety in forming without tooling change. This is the most advanced cage forming machine.

3, Traditional round-to-square/rectangular pipe mill technique

Round pipe is formed and welded from strip, which is formed into square/rectangular pipe at sizing section by roll forming. Each size is equipped with one set of tooling; the mill needs many quantities of tooling, heavy workload for size change, high power consumption with low mill efficiency and high product cost.

4, One set of tooling for square/rectangular pipe mill --- Directly square/rectangular forming technique

Strip is directly formed into square/rectangular shape and then is welded. One set of tooling is equipped for different sizes of square/rectangular pipe, therefore tooling investment is saved a lot, and power consumption is lowered with lighter pipe weight, good quality and long tooling life.

5, FD-CFS no-tooling change forming machine

A disadvantage of the above directly square/rectangular formingis that the tooling needs to be dismounted with new combination, the combination workload is big and changeover time is long (approx. occupy 2/3 of the working time). By automatic or electrical adjustment to the tooling FD-CFS flexible forming machine for square/rectangular pipes need not change tooling, therefore changeover time is saved and work time is shortened, power consumption is lowered and product quality is increased.

6, FD-CFSR flexible forming machine

The only disadvantage for the FD-CFS is that the round pipe can not be produced, FD Company is developed a FD-CFSR forming machine. When producing round pipe it has the FD-Cage features, when producing square/rectangular pipe it has the FD-CFD features. The machine is of high automatic or electrical level with low labor intensity and quick change.
